The artist from the Maritime Alps (France) applying for the DeMo residency in Kaunas will have to reflect on a vivid definition of modernity nowadays. While we have all become aware that we are living at the end of a world, it is now a question of collectively thinking about a sustainable world, which would give priority to cooperation, care for others and the environment. How can we support the global mobilisation of all citizens to bring about the radical changes that would reinvigorate our humanism? What role could artists play in reviving what once characterised the spirit of modernity, namely a spirit of emancipation, liberation, and empowerment? What forms could translate – if art should still produce embodied forms – this possibility of freedom, of expression of the critical spirit, of culture as a device for creating the collective intelligence by immersing into the issues and processes of emancipation?
