Back in February, the reciprocal residency programme DeMo together with partners thankyouforcoming from Nice have launched the Open Call for curators / art critics from Lithuania.

We are pleased to announce that Neringa Bumblienė, a curator, critic and art consultant living and working in Vilnius, will be travelling to Nice on the French Riviera at the end of April. Since 2014, she works as a curator at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius, Lithuania.

She has respectively graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Master’s degree in Curatorial Studies, and from the curatorial school École du Magasin in Grenoble, France. Throughout her career, she has worked on numerous contemporary art projects from large-scale international group exhibitions, such as Head with Many Thoughts and Baltic Triennial 13 Give Up the Ghost to solo presentations of established and emerging artists.

She is the Curator of the Pavilion of Lithuania at the 59th Biennale di Venezia with the project Gut Feeling by Robertas Narkus and the Artistic Director of the 1st Vilnius Biennial for Performance Art to be held in 2023. She is an expert on contemporary art at the Lithuanian Council for Culture, a Board Member of the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art and the art fair ArtVilnius.

Kaunas Artists’ House together with the ACROSS residencies by thankyouforcoming (based in Nice, French Riviera, France) have started to carry out the Reciprocal Residency Programme DeMo (abbreviation of Decoding Modernity) in 2021. Last Summer, a three weeks long residency allowed artist Beatrice Celli to discover the Kaunas area’s contemporary art scene and to develop her research work.

We would like to warmly thank the members of the jury who carefully considered all the applications, alongside Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė, DeMo Residency Coordinator and Claire Migraine, Artistic Director of thankyouforcoming, Austė Zdančiūtė, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in France and Jean-Christophe Arcos, curator and art critic, Head of the Visual Arts Bureau for the City of Paris.

Reciprocal Residency DeMo is a part of “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” programme.
