V. Starevičius’ short animated films program | the first wave

2019-10-23/19:00 - 21:00

Kaunas Artists’ House and Early Film Festival invite to V. Starevičius’ short animated films program with live accompaniment on October 23 at 7 pm. The films will be accompanied by silent film pianist Viktoras Orestas Vagusevičius. The event is free of charge.

Animator Vladislovas Starevičius is known for his French films made after the 1920s. Before that, he lived in the Tsarist Russian Empire – first in Kaunas and after 1910 in Moscow. Although the first films made in Kaunas did not survive, the Moscow period is already rich in puppet and beetle animation. Vladislovas never returned to Kaunas, but there is nothing to stop his films from returning here.

The screening will include films The Revenge of the Cinematographer (Месть кинематографического оператора, 1911), The dragonfly and the Ant (Стрекоза и муравей,

1911), The Lily of Belgium (Лилия Бельгии, 1915), the surviving fragments from the feature film Trip to the Moon (Путешествие на луну, 1912) and the first film made in France In the Grip of a Spider (Dans Les Griffes De L’araignee, 1920).

Early Film Festival aims to present early twentieth-century cinema to a wide audience, emphasizing the importance of film origins and history.
The screening will take place on October 23, 7 pm at the Kaunas Artists’ House (V. Putvinskio Str. 56). The event is free of charge.

Copies of Russian films were provided by “Era film”
