On January 15, 6 pm, Kaunas Artists’ House and architect Rasa Chmieliauskaitė invite to the presentation of (In)visible Architecture project publication, which will be available for reading during the event for all those interested. An open interview with the author of the publication will also take place.

This publication is a part of (In)visible Architecture project and was created using the design thinking method based on the qualitative study carried out with the target group of volunteers in 2019. The publication contains five architectural styles that are significant to Lithuania (late Gothic, Baroque, interwar Lithuanian modernism, brutalism, and postmodernism), which are represented in a tactile way; brief descriptions are provided and it is suggested to get acquainted with several buildings of these styles.

The publication is a

tool for non-professionals – both blind and sighted – to get acquainted with the expressions of architectural styles, to study and recognize signs in graphic-tactile drawings, which are the artistic interpretations by R. Chmieliauskaitė, representing the aforementioned architectural styles. The prints are created based on the experiences of the blind participants of the study.

The aim of the project (In)visible Architecture is to introduce the community of the blind and partially sighted to the development of architecture in Lithuania and to stimulate interest in the artistic and cultural value of the surrounding architecture as well as learn to read the language of architecture. The project also aims to acquaint the architecture professionals and the public with non-visual ways and possibilities of learning about architecture.
