Each year, we cooperate with the institutions located on Putvinskio Street, as well as individual neighbors, to turn the street into a common courtyard for a day, where the history and future of the street are explored in the form of a game. This year, we are putting Putvinskio Street Day in the hands of artists, and we invite you to join the hustle and bustle of creative workshops and artistic action, which will turn the street into a large courtyard even if for a short while.
Games in the courtyard until sunset and tree climbing! Do you remember how we used to make secrets (Sekretas in Lithuanian. It is a sort of land art installation that children would create in gardens using various knickknacks, flowers and a piece of glass) in the yard? We laid flowers, candy wrappers and our secrets under the glass. Such courtyard nostalgia! We invite you to remember your childhood and create your own secret at the backyard of Kaunas Artists’ House before Putvinskio Street Day, starting with May 16.
Your secrets will be exhibited in the courtyard of Kaunas Artists’ House during Putvinskio Street Day on May 21 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. You will also be able to attend three different creative workshops led by professional creators, who will invite you to explore and experience the street/courtyard. The projects of four emerging contemporary artists selected through an open call will also be presented. During the event, the Culture Information Centre will be open, where you will be able to learn more about the cultural field of Kaunas.
Creative workshop program:
Vilius Vaitiekūnas’ workshop Local Affairs: Speculations will take place at the Kaunas Artists’ House gallery from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (registration is closed)
Adomas Žudys’ workshop/art campaign at the bottom of Pompėja stairs will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Saulė Norkutė and Šarūnė Pečiukonytė’s workshop Neighbouring Resident or Species of Neighbours will take place at the Kaunas Artists’ House terrace from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Emerging artists’ program:
Saulė Noreikaitė’s performance Sietys in the yard of M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art from the side of V. Putvinskio Street will take place at 3 p.m.
Florian Bell’s Forever Young performance will take place at the concert hall of the Kaunas Artists’ House at 5 p.m.
Akvilina Šimkevičiūtė’s botanical jewellery workshop Adorn Yourself with Putvinskio Street will take place in the garden of the A. Žmuidzinavičius Creations and Collections Museum from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Rūta Simutytė’s soft sculpture installation Dangaus will be exhibited at the Kaunas Artists’ House terrace from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The gallery of Secrets will be open in the Kaunas Artists’ House courtyard 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
