2020-09-16/19:00 - 21:00

Kaunas Artists’ House is launching a new programme “Mocuments” for the dissemination of video art and films analysing the construction of different realities.

Attention. Please register to attend the events: shorturl.at/hjlzF
The first cycle of the programme, “Anonymous as Personal / Political,” is designed to reflect on one of the methods of narrative construction, in which images are sounded in a way that takes on a completely different meaning or incorporation of various unexpected strategies of editing is applied.

This cycle will consist of two screenings with a presentation and a discussion that will feature three films:
September 9, 7 p.m. Allan Sekula and Noël Burch film “The Forgotten Space” (Netherlands, Austria, 2010, 112 min., English) . The film will be presented by philosopher Povilas Dumbliauskas.

September 16, 7 p.m. film “Wonderful years” by Svitlana Shymko and Galyna Yarmanova (Ukraine, 2018, 9 min., Russian and Ukrainian with English subtitles) and Domantas Vildžiūnas “True Sound Film” by Domantas Vildžiūnas (Lithuania, 2010, 45 min., Lithuanian). After the screening of the films, the discussion will be led by Jurga Jonutytė, a philosophy professor, and Viktorija Kolbešnikova, a youth worker and public figure.

A series of screenings of video art and films and deiscussions, “Mocuments”, will focus on the relation between history and fiction by asking what we call documentary, where can we draw the line between documentary and video art or between document and artwork? This programme will analyze research methods, narrative constructs that fall between the boundaries of documentary and art.

The project “Mocuments” is a part of the extended Kaunas Artists’ House programme “Unlearning Eastern Europe”. In the course of the programme, the aim is to rethink the problems specific to the (Eastern European) region – from the traumas of the historical past, the possibilities of decolonization to the strategies of memory politics or activism.

The programme is supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre
