The event will feature author of the book and a guide Elena Gasiulytė and author of the comics Miglė Anušauskaitė. It will be moderated by Asta Volungė, educator at the Kaunas Artists’ House.
Elena Gasiulytė is a philologist accidentally-turned-tour-guide who has co-founded Idėjų karalystė (Kingdom of ideas) that organizes interactive tours around Vilnius.
Miglė Anušauskaitė works at the Judaica Research Centre.
She has drawn many comics and several award-winning graphic novels (Dr. Kvadratas. Greimas ir jo semiotika, 10 litų).
This book is an attempt to talk to ten personalities that are important to Lithuanian culture as well as a conversation between two authors: Gasiulytė’s unexpected, personal texts are looking for a common language with the ironic and daring comics of Anušauskaitė.
Lithuanian Female Visionaries. 10 Visual Impressions is not a collection of encyclopedic facts. These are ten subjective stories about women who have entered the Lithuanian and world history as innovators and visionaries. This is a very personal
book-conversation with ten historical personalities that have led to breakthroughs in various fields: politics, music, culinary and literature. It is also a kind of party, where you will get the chance to get acquainted with these ladies.
Some of its participants – Žemaitė or Sofija Čiurlionienė – would seem familiar to everyone, but in this book, you will see them in a different light. You may hear about Marija Liudvika Gonzaga, Emma Goldman or Clara Rockmore for the first time but we can assure you, you will be glad to have made their acquaintance. The lives of all ten personalities are related to Lithuania in one way or another, which allows us to be justifiably proud of them.
