Insomnia salon | Gone with the wind

2020-07-24/21:00 - 23:59

What do you see in your beloved’s eyes? What feeling does it give you? Why do their gazes disturb you? Do you remember them when you can’t sleep at night?

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is better than dreams,” says Dr. Seuss.

A unique clinic was recently opened in Munich to treat people who have experienced unrequited love. Here, the “victims” are monitored by psychologists, therapists, cardiologists and other specialists.

“Single 56 year-old woman from Jonava is looking for a friend (f). Not interested in adventures. Only serious calls and only after work hours.”

On 24 July, 9 pm Kaunas Artists’ House, together with Nida Art Colony, invites you to Writer Thomas Mann Memorial Museum (Skruzdynės g. 17, Nida) which will house the Insomnia Salon | Gone with the Wind – performative readings of love letters by Lithuanian LGBTQ+ authors of various generations with Agnė Jokšė, Artūras Tereškinas, Denisas Kolomyckis, Janina Sabaliauskaitė, Monika Kalinauskaitė and Veronika Šleivytė.

The event is curated by Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė and Edvinas Grinkevičius as a part of the NAC Nightlife Events Programme and the series of “Insomnia Salon” events of the Kaunas Artists’ House Reading Room in partnership with Vilnius Queer Festival “Kreivės”.

Nightlife Event Programme is a series of collaborative events played out at local bars, clubs, and other friendly institutions in Nida, scattered throughout the summer. By inviting partner institutions to visit NAC and Nida this summer, bringing along friends and stories to tell, we work together on a programme based on the principle of exchange, gathering and becoming part of NAC and Nida’s public life.

The aim of the “Insomnia Salon” series of events of the Kaunas Artists’ House reading room is to expand the context of insomnia and to analyze various cultural phenomena related to sleep disorders. To what extent is insomnia associated today with creative processes, or it is a part of anxiety, insecurity, nightmares, exhaustion, or general boredom? All issues related to insomnia, sleep disorders and their symptoms are discussed in the salon, in a room where a group of people usually gathers to speak and discuss issues of politics, art and literature. The curator of the series is Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė.

We thank the Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum and Milda Dainovskyte for their help.
